Ron "Quinn" Straight helped found Netsville in 1994, moving to Rochester, NY in the summer of 1995 with no relevant job experience and nothing but a love of hacking and a marginally above-average intelligence. And moxie, of course. Since then his title has been Creative Director, Senior Programmer, and (most recently) VP of Community.
His major job function is the breeding and cultivation of the Hazel shopping cart and the building of Netsville's "community" presence. The latter stems from the deep roots of Netsville's founders in the 80's BBS/hack/phreak community and the short-lived MUD/MOO boom of the early 90's .
The name "Quinn" was chosen as his nick/name/alias when he started in MOO, and he prefers it to his given birth name. Want to know more? Contact him at the Netsville MOO. See the upper left box in the Netsville.net sidebar.
His all-time favorite games include Wasteland, Fallout, Arcanum, and Diablo II: LOD.
He is currently occupied with Neverwinter Nights (on Windows rather than the slow but appreciated Linux client), absorbing the mechanics of the d20 system while awaiting the Gamma World d20 edition.
His favorite author is Charles Willeford. Maybe you haven't heard of Charles Willeford, in which case that's great because it means Quinn has been pretentiously cool on his page and you should punch him in the neck. In any case, Willeford wrote The Woman Chaser, The Machine In Ward Eleven, The Burnt Orange Heresy, and so much more. Absurdly funny noir.
In his CD changer are three Radiohead titles (OK Computer, Kid A, and Amnesiac) and three mix CD ranging from electronica to classic hippie rock to Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers. He finally burned some trip-hop tunes by his pals Gilmore and Spunky from tspigot.
Recent purchases include an Enermax tower with a "whisper" power supply for his home Linux PC with ASUS K6 board. He has noticed that the pre-emptive patch really does work with a decent power supply and cooling solution.
Quinn is married to a gorgeous Rochesterian (with whom he shared a fun Halloween vacation in Salem, MA last year, and another over Independence Day) and the proud papa of a lovable mongrel cat named Puck and a rascally little wiggler named Nemo.
In addition to their feline brood, Dawn and Quinn were graced with a gorgeous baby girl in May 2003.
