For days, he climbed Morlith's steep slopes avoiding the dread gaze of the dragons. Only the driving force of his loins called him to continue his suicidal journey. She sat blissfully before him, her onyx scales glinting in the light of his brass lantern. ShadowHawk's elven sword didn't flash a bright blue so he must be safe. A scarlet tongue lazily hung from her mouth, eyes swirled in color. Hryxxli'nth rumbled something in the dragon tongue. He moaned in excitement as the sounds passed through him, spine aquiver with anticipation. Hryxxli'nth smiled a razor toothed smile as she coyly brought her tail around her lower regions, leaning forward to ShadowHawk. She rumbled something in the dragon tongue. Okay I think we're obviously missing things that made this MOO fun. Look at the purpose of the MOO, the theme. It's dark, life is supposed to be difficult, and we're basicially supposed to be living by mere threads and the only thing we have left is hope. Well since the MOO is getting stagnant maybe we should have a meeting of sorts. A friend brought up the simple fact that we don't need Geo or Tek to help make a storyline, you just need imagination or something along that idea. So what I wanted to do was have a sort of Rp meeting, We'll have people take a bunch of ideas, some would even take over and start a storyline behind them. Mainly we should start staying in theme. Okay so maybe try for a meeting tonight at 8 EST, thats 5 PST for you others. Just a sort of gtahering of brainstorming to get a few ideas to keep the game interesting. *grin* So thats it for now, lets see what happens. -------------------------- Message 1714 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Mar 12 17:48:28 1998 EST From: Akane (#14270) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: re: Shy's about MSIE Thanks, I didn't know that... my bad :) -------------------------- Message 1715 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Thu Mar 12 18:28:28 1998 EST From: Kynwal (#20497) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: Tek/Geo and plots Do you NEED a Tek/Geo for plots? Nope. Are the plots usually alot more detailed when run with them? (detailed as in new rooms/items/creatures/etc) Yes indeed it is. When I was doing 'Dawgs Will Hunt' aka Fae Plot, I intentionally tried to make it a moo-wide plot so everyone, and not just those people in the center (the heroes so to speak) would have things to do. At the end, which was just before vacation and me making the R/T obsidian WEB and the spiders, I was about to split the main people who seemed to be involved into two groups. Those that wanted the merger and those that didn't. All in all, I figured about 12 PC's in the main thrust of it. (When will I ever learn that 12 PC's is a handful). I had more plans to do things that might bother the essentially non-involved players, ergo, more changes to the R/T. Ya know you all loved Chauncey! Admit it! The point? Without a TEK/GEO plots on a large scale are pretty well damn hard to do. And the reason it was fizzled out? Vacation. A period of a week with no real progress on a plot is a killer. If someone came up with a really good plot idea, and needed code and building backup for it, they should have a place to bring it to the attention of the wizzen at large. They need to think through their idea, and be willing to answer questions about it, and be open to the idea that it just won't work, or won't happen, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't bring the ideas to the 'staff'. Idealy we would have a group of experienced RPers, even people who have GMed games IRL, who are fairly versed in Ghostwheel history, and semi-aquainted with the world of what's possible and what's not in MOO. This group of 5-7 people would have regular meetings, and come up with plots for the whole MOO. Various members would be responsible for keeping track of various MOO 'Factions', one representative who keeps watch over the dragonriders, one for the submariners, etc. They don't need to be $builders or $programmers, infact, they shouldn't be. They should be focused on coming up with plans for plots, and cultivating RP. What this MOO is essentially about. Once they had a plot idea, with a full description of what's supposed to happen, and what needs to be coded/built, this would be passed on to the Programming/Building team (which should be fairly small), who then dole out the building and coding between themselves. There would be one builder/coder in the RPG Team, which would comment on the viability of ideas, and the construction of new areas. The RPG Team would meet perhaps once a week, with their own *list that only they, and the Tek/Geo Team would have access to. The Tek/Geo group would correspond with each other through pages and moo-mail lists, with a definite list of currently-being-worked-on projects. Tek/Geos would not be responsible for developing plot, and would indeed be discouraged from doing so. If members of the RPG team wanted to develop a new area, they could either submit the room descriptions to a Geo/Tek that would impliment them, or the rooms could be built, @chowned to a player and described, and then @chowned to a utility RPG character for safe-keeping. Being on the RPG team would grant members no special powers, other than the duty to create an interesting timeline for players, and possibly addition into a 'Player-helpers pool', which would have automated verbs to alert its members of players who needed help. -Mulder -------------------------- Message 1720 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Fri Mar 13 08:50:51 1998 EST From: Red_Fang (#5907) To: *Chat (#5391) Subject: re: Plots and stuff.. One of the reasons I vacationed everyone was because there seemed to be a sense of "inflation". Monsters too powerful, plots too far-reaching. Things had become less personal, more global. We're a splintered, fractured, shattered society -- our plots should follow that pattern. Honestly, the kind of character I'd play wouldn't give a fuck about dragons or little fairies invading the world. You know what he'd be doing? I just think we should get back to playing like we did before. When I first came here it was so much fun, it still is, dont get me wrong. But then there was no frowning on players who looted, kidnapped and murdered. There were ppl wandering the wheel just to do it, everything was an adventure, hiding and running away from outrageous players was an everyday occurrence. For some reason we have grown soft, we have allowed ourselves to be guided by those who did not want to participate in such actions. I know I have, Smoke would never return a weapon or by pass anyone she could taunt or kill, but now it seems the norm of this game. I would really love to see more cyber punk players, I know I try to push this all the time, but in my mind, to me, these ppl would exist in a world of total distraction. I get the feeling sometimes that players dance around, afraid to step on any ones toes. I know nobody likes to lose, but do you really win or lose here? Sure you might lose a weapon, but as long as hoarding is kept to a minimum. I really dont see the problem. If someone icly attacks you, loots and kills you. Then you gang up and kick the shit out of that player. If we spent the time playing, instead of posting to *sb and chat about our loses and ooc hurt feelings, well, I think we would have a hell of a lot more fun. -------------------------- Message 1728 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Fri Mar 13 16:07:46 1998 EST From: Rathe (#14172) To: *Chat (#5391) Despite the fact that that post seemed to contain a thinly veiled insult or two, be it a concious effort on Smoke's part, or unconcious, I'm afraid I agree with her to a degree. The 'TP' that's been proposed, while possibly having sweeping effects, is simply setting up a power structure. Characters can choose to become a part of it, or choose not to. It's up to them as to whether they wish to become involved or not. I agree whole heartedly with Quinn. The world being threatened, day in, day out, gets old. It gets old FAST. Also, however, and I might be misinterpreting him entirely, but it seems that his ideas also apply to not having constant threat or crisis _all_ the time to your character. There is too much whining about coded combat. Far too much. You pick a fight, expect consequences. Alot of people I have seen refuse to take them. Personally, I prefer uncoded combat. It allows for a little more creativity, and, at times, more realism. I prefer it for the RP value of the scene, as well as the fact that I get rather quickly tired of hearing people scream and whine if I do otherwise. While there is constant danger in the game world, and well there _should_ be, players should also not be threatened by impending doom at every moment. It gets boring. It begins to seem 'hopeless' if you realize, and people quickly do, that they are not, and will not, be on par with the stat gods, or oldbie characters with excessive holdings, ever. Alot of it is about playing the character. Yes, there are a hell of alot of people I could codedly do as I will with. It's a choice not to, because of the nature of the character that I play. Just because it is a cruel world, this does not necessitate that every character in it exist only for the sake of harming others. A well-rounded character has motivations, memories, history -- all things that make up the reasons for what they do. If you give a great deal of thought, or even, usually, a little, to what makes the character 'tick', so to speak, you'll know how they will respond to certain situations. Characters raised in certain faiths and beliefs may, perhaps, never harm a child, woman, or insane person. Others may think these all beneath them, and exterminate them whenever possible. We, as people, react to the world around us based on the experiences in the lives that we have led. Similarly, our characters would react to the world around them from the experiences that we have defined them as having. It can be just as interesting to have a philosophical argument between characters of conflicting beliefs or views as it is to slam them down with a blade. I am NOT saying that it is 'bad' to slam someone down with a blade, I am saying that, with a well developed character, you can do -more- than just slam someone down with a blade. There are options out there that apply to a disjointed world that are not _all_ combat based. Wars have started over simple breaches of customs unknown to one side or the other -- lack of understanding those in the world, or the world itself, can become the grounds for all levels of conflicts. The proposed ideas, I believe, will help to stir up some action. If you don't feel like being stirred by them, don't. There is no impending doom in the thought of Red holding his keep in the Oasis, or Rathe living in the Mystique house -- or is there? These are things that have developed ICly. Small power struggles that have, in some ways, built up over time. What has been proposed merely is that we take advantage of these already existing situations and use them to stimulate role-play. If you don't believe in the intrigue and possible role-play possibilities of such organizations, then read Romeo and Juliet -- or most of history, for that matter. This plot seems, to me, to be a go ahead to 'do your own thing and see if you can make it work'. It sounds like a great deal of fun (and I don't even own anything!) and in alot of ways, it's what everyone has been doing all along. Yes, the Montagues and Capulets suffered heavy losses -- and Verona certainly had a few pock-marks to remind the rest of the citizenry about how warring factions can mark many lives -- but the city still stood, battle scars notwithstanding -- and most of the people living there probably never even noticed. That's one of my two cents. I need the other to buy myself s'more painkillers. -me. -------------------------- Message 1731 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Fri Mar 13 17:16:22 1998 EST From: Red_Fang (#5907) To: *Chat (#5391) Ok, since everyone posted spam and no one posted how much they loved me or my singing.. I've already MOOmailed them to interested people and Quinn, and because the response was positive (so far) so I'll post them here. I seriously doubt that my suggestions would be coming at a good time with the vacations being in effect. Plus these would involve building rather than just a plot for people to be involved with, but they would be something to hinge plots around. Also, these areas would be located in the Wastes. I send these because I would like to see GhostWheel take on a new bent rather than the Renaissance Faire atmosphere that has become prevalent but without entirely dismissing the medieval feel that other wizards have created and some people have gotten used to. My first idea would be to have a camp of escaped recombs (where recombs could live ICly, Jizo becoming a protectorate for non-escaped recombs. but this would step on the toes of Nebula but it's still an idea) somewhere out in the wastes with a feel like an Arabian bazaar. It wouldn't involve any mega/meta rooms since it would already be in one, and there would be some areas where there would be hunting of sorts of the recombs that weren't quite right when they were made and the escaped recombs took pity upon them and also kept them for war beasts or something. My second idea would be a group of people who were deep underground in mines that were refitted to be shelters. I'd see them as being like the Brotherhood of Steel in a way, but without the super-tech, but this would also be a hook to make the Tech Order become an entity again rather than a series of $rooms taking up space. The mine people would be few and far between, but they would be maintained by robots that would protect them. I'd say this would be located in the military tunnels underneath 10/10 in the wastes and accessible by the never working shuttle in the subways (at least they would have rerouted it to their place to go topside). I admit this idea is pretty superficial unlike the other idea, but it'd be something to balance out the Dungeons and Dragons that has taken over GhostWheel. Please reply when you can, and I will be sharing this message with other people who show an interest. I'd like to give something back to GhostWheel that gave me much fun before. I am more then happy to just build etc. But as I said in the player meeting, this moo is heavily dependent on $staff doing things for players. Posed combat vs Coded: Okay then if I win in posed combat, I expect you to hand over anything you have on your person that I may want. That is assuming people will actually lose in posed combat when we have no impartial comparing system. Sure, I know Rathe could whip my tail, not so sure Seraph could. What I was trying to get across is this, ever time someone loots, kills or basically does something another, or group of players don't like they are labeled a twink. So the 'danger' or 'excitement' leaves the game till you have a bunch of ppl sitting idle, leaving or eventually conform to the screaming masses. Anyway, lets just play who we want, there is so much imagination. Dont be afraid of the labelers, just come out and have fun. -------------------------- Message 1745 from *Chat (#5391): Date: Fri Mar 13 21:59:24 1998 EST From: Rathe (#14172) To: *Chat (#5391) You sure didn't like it when I looted you the other night ;) but then again, you didn't complain OOCly.
